Everything You Need to Know About Cooking Rice

The Souspreme Multi Pot makes cooking any type of rice faster and more consistent.  Getting perfectly cooked rice with the ideal texture every time requires a little bit of know-how, including water-to-rice ratio, cook time and how long to let steam release naturally.

The chart below provides information on cooking common types of rice.  Here are some additional tips:

Always rinse your rice with cold water until the water runs clear.  This process removes the excess starch, preventing sticky rice that clumps together.

Don’t skimp on the times for the natural release.  This is considered part of the recipe’s cook time, and the rice is still cooking during this process.  Rapid release may result in sticky or underdone rice.

To prevent sticking to the bottom, allow the pressure to naturally release for at least 10 minutes.  After that, you can use the quick release button to release any additional steam.

For added flavor, add a 1 tsp of oil and ¼ tsp of salt for every cup of rice being cooked.  You can also spice it up further by adding fresh or dried spices, cranberries, raisins and more.

Successfully cooking rice depends on a specific water-to-rice ratio.  The exact amount of liquid depends on how you like your rice.  Use our cooking times below as a starting point.  The exact cooking time can also vary upon certain conditions, which could include altitude.
